The way she described it,while the lights and
cameras were on her, Clinton's
personna was the one we have come
to know on TV. But when the cameras
shut off, Hillary's countenance,
and her eyes went so cold, my
friend said the hair stood up on the back of her neck.As in Not-of-
this-Earth scary.
It's an interesting observation,
to what degree an individual is
willing to expand their conciousness; how far they will go
in their personal suspension-of-disbelief.In Astrology, Saturn
symbolises control, caution,
limitation,etc., but still these
matters remain an individual
proposition. For instance, even if
Dick Cheney stood up tomorrow and
said,"Yea, I did it"(which he
virtually has), X number of people
will NEVER accept 9/11/2001 was an
inside job, a false flag attack on
America by the elected Executive
branch of the United States government. Life, Human Life, is not about primate-like possession, it's about learning to be human, to create and evolve our lives with a sense and craving of beauty and value that cannot be 'possessed' by the mighty and the rich, for they do not comprehend nor want to comprehend that the future of humanity, the progress from a evolutionairy primate into an evolving human-beïng lays in the 'secret' of creating beauty/value while doïng just that, its in the proces, during the proces of creation in the working on and towards a creation, that the humanity of a human-beïng grows, its in the proces, in the work that he or she reaches towards created beauty and value as a human-beïng. And when this is done, when this creation of a painting or sculpture or music or writing or cabinet or automobile is finished, when its beauty/value is clear and shining to be admired, then the artist, the creator go's on with his/her life, for he/she who knows, who experiënced his/her creative abilities also knows that 'possession' to possess, is a deadtrap, an end with no means.

And the times they are a changing (Bob Dylan)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19580203.post-84110606425352326762008-07-08T04:29:00.000-07:002008-07-08T04:29:00.000-07:00Personally, I find many religious beliefs appealin...Personally, I find many religious beliefs appealing and some of them socially useful. I am intrigued by reincarnation suspecting that it may have some basis in reality. Just by way of speculation it's possible that actions and emotions might exist as subtle energies and, like diluted radio waves, might persist after death and be "received" by newborn infants. Certainly, in some hindu and tibetan buddhist beliefs an evolution in consciousness takes place upon the first breath of a new born and, according to these theories, the reincarnated human soul enters the body at this time. I have no idea if this is true but I don't rule it out. Of course, one should not build one's life around such idle speculation.

The two big bugbears of bad religion:

(a) Morality, rather than a deeply considered affirmation of one's own mortality and a desire to enoble oneself, appears as a bludgeon to beat others around the head. I can think of nothing worse than people with these views foisting themselves on others (eg hating homosexuals).

(b) Women are hated in most religions. There is no escaping it. They are seen at worst as the source of all evil giving rise to miserable "honor killings" by emotional arsehole males. At best, they are seen as "inferior beings" who can never aspire to higher consciousness. Most religions are beset by this lunacy, proof positive of their essential intellectual bankruptcy on this key issue. Your reference to Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus' and to Spender's sensitive essay both touch on this point. As long as women are not only disrespected but hated for the pleasure they bring to men, for their laughter, their intellects and their being, as long as they are denied an integral and equal place as men, religious belief systems will continue to be worthless.

Thanks for the Spender. Cheers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19580203.post-44971100851656967972008-07-08T03:25:00.000-07:002008-07-08T03:25:00.000-07:00Cheap religion is like cheap wine, it always gives...Cheap religion is like cheap wine, it always gives a headache.

That's priceless, damien. If I quote you, I will attribute. I am reminded of all those Elmer Gantry types in Texas who find 'Jay-sus' at the bottom of a bottle. The images summoned up remind one of Neil Diamond's "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show". I owe my skepticism of packaged religion to these folks. In my case, their efforts were counter-productive.

Press on with the holy crusade to rid the world of all things Bush!

Thanks : ) I learned enough about Christian fundamentalism to recognize 'The' Beast when I see him.

Jung and Joseph Campbell, I think, were very close to pinning it all down. 'Religion', I think, are manifestations of 'archetypes' but papered over with socially acquired rationalizations. Many creation myths begin with 'man' emerging from primordial oceans, just as modern biology traces our origins to the sea. One of my favorite paintings is Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus', a painting that I have been fortunate enough to have viewed for quite a long and contemplative time in the Ufizzi. It is an image of woman, one who gives birth, a life-giver, emerging, radiant, windblown from the sea.

The poet Stephen Spender wrote a self-analytical essay entitled 'The Birth of a Poem'. In the poem, Bath of Aphrodite, Spender reverses the image, depicting woman returning to the waves.

What birds are those that ride the rising seas?
Slow shorelong pelicans
Fanned by the shoreward green

Her thighs curved like the Venus's-shell submerge,
She wades into deep waves, her body drowns
Up to the lifted breasts and lifting arms;
Foam floats the tendrils of her tightening curls.

What birds are these that fall with never a swerve?
Far waves where morning burns,
Terns shatter into glass.

Now the rich moment, as she leans and swims
Folded into a hissing slope of foam:
The sear receives the shape that once it gave:
Her gold and roses to its dazzle of waves,
The shadow of all her secrets to its shade.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04598093941551759917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19580203.post-85110060039842666102008-07-08T00:37:00.000-07:002008-07-08T00:37:00.000-07:00I never believed you held superficial views on rel...I never believed you held superficial views on religion -- or anything -- Len.
