November 25, 2008, NORFOLK (NNS) -- U.S. Fleet Forces Command's (USFF) staff enhanced its capabilities to support global regional combatant commanders while simultaneously supporting U.S. federal disaster response efforts as it wrapped up its participation in Vigilant Shield 2009 (VS09) Nov. 12-18.--U.S. Fleet Forces Command Tailors Operational Support for Vigilant Shield 09The Army Times, meanwhile, had reported that NORTHCOM had, in fact, deployed an active military unit inside the United States, the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment within U.S. Borders. Nevermind that it is a clear violation of the law. But, when the government itself is illegitimate, the 'rule of law' means nothing; the Constitution itself is just a 'goddamned piece of paper'.
In a barely noticed development, a US Army unit is now training for domestic operations under the control of US Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command. An initial news report in the Army Times newspaper last month noted that in addition to emergency response the force “may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control.” The military has since claimed the force will not be used for civil unrest, but questions remain. We speak to Army Col. Michael Boatner, future operations division chief of USNORTHCOM, and Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive magazine. In a barely noticed development last week, the Army stationed an active unit inside the United States. The Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Team is back from Iraq, now training for domestic operations under the control of US Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command. The unit will serve as an on-call federal response for large-scale emergencies and disasters. It’s being called the Consequence Management Response Force, CCMRF, or “sea-smurf” for short.--Democracy Now, Is Posse Comitatus Dead? US Troops on US Streets
Furthermore it appears that the FBI may have been using a station faking technology that would allow them to locate an individual through their cell phone. The ACLU is concerned with how this technology is used and if there was proper judicial oversight. In the USA Patriot ACT, this process for obtaining a track was made easier, and could allow for little to no judicial oversight. This tracking via cell phones could have been used during the RNC without the knowledge of even the phone companies."These behaviors are a radical departure from separation of civilian law enforcement and military authority, and could, quite possibly, represent a violation of law," said Teresa Nelson, ACLU of Minnesota. The ACLU-MN will continue to investigate and will use their findings in future lawsuits against law enforcement officials.--Revealing RNC document leakedA final observation: this will only get worse until the current government is crushed and brought to book. Frankly, I don't see that happening. The US, it's 'goverment' in particular, is broken, perhaps irreparably. The regime of George W. Bush was illegitimate from the outset. Restoring legitimacy to a government which is, in fact, controlled by the MIC and the numerous lobbies that are dependent upon it is probably beyond the ability of a new administration to repair.
These are the symptoms of the end of empire. The US couldn't even do that right. Some have estimated that the Roman empire lasted almost 400 years. The US is not even in the ball park. How ludicrous that Bush fancied himself a dictator, a new Caesar. The 'new Caesar' will be remembered as the effeminate dipshit who pranced around the deck of an aircraft carrier in a too tight flight suit, an escapee from the Village People. My personal message to George Bush: fuck you, you megalomaniacal idiot!

Why wouldn't they? We had no Congressional opposition, as the Congress was merely a rubber stamp for whatever the moronic monkey pulled out of his ass. And since Chimpy has never heard the word "no" in his entire life,I wouldn't be surprised at anything. What he wants to do, he does. His parents, the authorities, Congress, and the American people have all failed to stop him.

Well, I didn't say I was surprised.
Len was not possie comiatus a law already on the books? was it rescinded in the patriot act or by signing statement? And has it been restored?
Boom! Len brings down the hammer on Chimpie! Good job. These fucking Republicans don't deserve to live in this great country....
They still have 2 weeks to do more damage. Thanks, as always, for your insight.
Interestingly, one of the Brigades (that I know of) is stationed in Ft. Stewart, Georgia; the Atlanta Regional Commission is now 'surveying' its residents on their evacuation plans in the event they are ordered to do so. Considering that I cannot think of a single reason to evacuate Atlanta other than a nuclear/chemical/biological weapon scenario, I cannot help but think the worst. Even more interesting, after extensive Googling, is that Atlanta is the only city in the US that is conducting an evacuation survey. JollySusan. Forgot to ask if you know what happened to the missing nuke flown into Barksdale AFB. JollySusan

Thanks for the reminder of what is most certainly an act of HIGH TREASON, involving the Bush administration and the military. I dont think anyone outside the govt knows where the nuke is. It could have been found. Nuclear warheads leak enough radiation to have been detected. Sensors at shipping docks are designed to pick up the leakage. Clearly ...the Bush administration did not want to find it. It has to be somewhere and, clearly, it could still be used to start WWIII via a false flag nuke attack on an American city. The incident is strange. It is my understanding that if Bushco wanted to trigger WWIII in that manner, there are plenty of suitcase nukes at their disposal.

Last time I checked it was. I did a story about it. But ..as we have seen with Bush, laws on the books mean nothing.
I will NEVER feel safe until the Bush demon seed is no longer viable and every living member of the Bush gang is rounded up, charged, convicted and dropped into a dank pit on Devils Island.
Hi, Len. It's all deeply depressing what's going on in Gaza and the media accounts are deranged ("The war has been going one day and already there are casualties. Yesterday an Israeli soldier was killed...." Never mind that 500 Palestinians were dead at that stage. They don't count. What an obscenity!)
At any rate, I put together some of my notes on Bush's contribution to the economic meltdown and Smirking Chimp kindly gave it a run. You've done the financial side way, way better than I ever could but there's some bits there you might find interesting. Cheers.

The timing is very suspicious. Israel has lost any benefit of the doubt that I might have had. It obvious that they are trying to kill as many Palestinians (if not all) before Bush formally exits. There are other --worse --implications. Is Israel hoping to trigger a wider conflict in which Iran would have to involve itself?

Thanks for the kind words and the link to your excellent treatment of Bush's CRIMINAL conduct of the US (and the world) economy. I especially like this reminder: "Bush banned the states from protecting consumers. No US federal agency regulates mortgage lending, that's a province of the states. In 2003 when they collectively sought to legislate against predatory bank lending practices they were blocked by the US Treasury Department’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, acting on Bush's advice."
I was also struck by: "No-one could have seen the collapse coming," Bush and Condo seemed to have begun a competition between them to see which one could use the phrase "....no one could have foreseen" most often. It's one of their most stupid DODGES. Everyone foresaw! In fact, I wrote several 'warning' articles. One of them --Economic Tsunami: A Perfect Storm Threatens US Economy-- is about a year old.
Great piece Len. I posted it on Newsvine. ThXs!
I don't hate Bush as much as some people do. But in my opinion he traded in a potentially permanent victory in Afghanistan for temporary one (and, yes, even that's debatable) in Iraq. I personally think that Colin Powell would have been a far, FAR, better president. As for Mr. Obama, no doubt he'll be better, too. But with his residual force plan for Iraq, his own "surge" strategy in Afghanistan, and the occasional sabre-rattling toward Pakistan, the vigil is far from over here. Here's to hoping that I'm wrong.

We'll have to respectfully disagree about Afghanistan. I have yet to find a scintilla of evidence connecting the Taliban or, indeed, ANYONE in Afghanistan with the events of 911. The US has no legitimate business in Afghanistan. The CIA drug operation is not considered 'legitimate'. The real reason for the US attack and invasion of Afghanistan was the Taliban's opposition to the proposed CENTGAS pipeline.
I personally think that Colin Powell would have been a far, FAR, better president.
Powell was, of course, intellectually superior to anyone in the Bush admin and that includes Rumsfeld who had clearly gone mad by the time he joined the Bush admin. But --sadly --that's not saying much. Powell has, of late, tried to redeem himself. Alas! Too late!
As for Mr. Obama, no doubt he'll be better, too.
Sadly, Obama's good intentions are not enough. The US is controlled be the MIC and the CIA. JFK was the last President that dared challenge their power.
Thanks, Zena : )
I actually agree with you, I think. I'm not for the occupation of ANY country. I'm just saying that Afghan mission would have probably turned out much better had it not been for Bush's diversion into Iraq.
Nice compilation of the main clues to martial law in 2009 - I have been following these for quite sometime.
Well written and nicely put.
What amazes me is how unaware Americans are of their own legislation. No doubt, when martial law takes over, the public wail will be...But we didn't know!!!!!
Not surprising but very scary. I think you're right, the US is the its downward slope of its power.
If you think things are bad now, just wait, it's going to get worse.
We're already living under a form of martial law, with out emails and cell phone conversations being spied on w/o a warrant.
Satellites fly overhead and peer into our homes and track the moves of "persons of interest."
Like Len and anyone else who's ballsy enough to say "Stop, this had gone far enough."
They can legally use no-knock warrants and come in with guns blazing and it's an "Oops, sorry," if they got the wrong house.
When is the last time you heard some cop or federal agent go to prison for shooting an unarmed citizen during a botched raid?
We don't have money for health care, but the various goon squads, like the ATF, DEA, FBI etc are bristling with weapons making them look more like a platoon of Green Berets.
And we have no problem with funding over 800 military bases around the world to protect our "interests."
Our interests? More like the interests of AT&T, ExxonMobil and GE.
The local cops aren't much better.
They just love getting military technology and weapons, to protect us from the "bad guys."
Right.
Who are they so afraid of?
We the People.
1.7 million lost their homes in 2007.
2.5 million in 2008.
In 2009, it will get worse.
The ones in power are like junkies addicted to some drug.
Try getting between a meth head and his next fix and see what happens.
DC and Wall Street will continue to loot, pillage and plunder this country until there is nothing left.
Yes, the same ones who take that oath of office to uphold the Constitution.
An oath which they treat like used toilet paper.
And forget writing or calling your DC rep.
Remember how effective that was when people deluged the Congress with phone calls, emails and faxes saying NO to the Banker Bailout Bill?
We're fucked.
If we don't want to take a stand and fight for our freedom, then you'd better get used to that boot stomping on your neck.

Everything you say is absolutely correct.
I feel sorry for folk in places like Houston. In Houston, the 'power that be' is all owned by big oil. In other words: Bush's world wide criminal conspiracy.
Almost every other job or industry is thus compromised by it. Anyone earning a 'salary' in Houston is either directly or indirectly compromised by the likes of Exxon-Mobil, Shell, KBR et al. It's like living in a company town. It's like living in Potter's BEDFORD FALLS. Google: "It's a Wonderful Life". In one way or the other, everyone owes their soul to the company store.
I might have been in the House O' Reps by now --but had the good sense NOT to make the Faustian Pact. I paid the price but I am FREE. More about that later.
In any case, Greg: YOU ARE CORRECT-0-MUNDO.
WE ARE SORELY FUCKED!
I agree 100% on everything that you said until you made the comment about the current administration fixing it. Look who Obama is putting in power, change meant more of the same! This is not a Republican vs. Democrat thing, wake up, the powers that be own both parties! Quit getting caught up in the Left-Right paradigm! www.infowars.com

I'll have to recheck my copy. I believe I had written to the effect that the chances of anything improving are slim or none. Or words to that effect.
