It Takes Courage to Leave the GOP Cult

by Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy

The GOP is not a political party. It is a crime syndicate, to be sure, but also evinces characterisitcs of a kooky cult. I say that based upon my experience as a young man who got an education from 'inside the GOP'. I consulted them but stopped for reasons of conscience. I can relate to comments by John P. Judis, who chose to leave the cult.
"Over the last four decades, the Republican Party has transformed from a loyal opposition into an insurrectionary party that flouts the law when it is in the majority and threatens disorder when it is the minority. It is the party of Watergate and Iran-Contra, but also of the government shutdown in 1995 and the impeachment trial of 1999. If there is an earlier American precedent for today's Republican Party, it is the antebellum Southern Democrats of John Calhoun who threatened to nullify, or disregard, federal legislation they objected to and who later led the fight to secede from the union over slavery." U.S. Fascism Will Have TX Origins
--John P. Judis, quote found at Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult, Mike Lofgren, Truthout | News Analysis
The GOP --sponsored as it is by exceedingly huge corporations which now presume to be persons --is an existential threat to American Democracy. The recent decision re: corporate personhood will prove to have been the piece de resistance! Either the GOP is in the pocket of the huge corporations or it is the other way around. The distinctions are as blurred as is the term 'corporate moraltiy' --an oxymoron.

The fact is corporations are mere 'legal abstractions'; they are NOT people. The definition of 'people' may be found in biology and/or psychology textbooks; I deny that politicians, old men, liars in robes can redefine with a mere decree some several million years of evolution over which they had no control or input. Robed judges are not 'God'! They cannot --with a mere decree --change the laws of evolution and/or physics. That some on the 'court' think so is evidence of insane and myopic arrogance!
I left because I was appalled at the headlong rush of Republicans, like Gadarene swine, to embrace policies that are deeply damaging to this country's future; and contemptuous of the feckless, craven incompetence of Democrats in their half-hearted attempts to stop them. And, in truth, I left as an act of rational self-interest. Having gutted private-sector pensions and health benefits as a result of their embrace of outsourcing, union busting and "shareholder value," the GOP now thinks it is only fair that public-sector workers give up their pensions and benefits, too. Hence the intensification of the GOP's decades-long campaign of scorn against government workers. Under the circumstances, it is simply safer to be a current retiree rather than a prospective one.

--John P. Judis, quote found at Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult, Mike Lofgren, Truthout | News Analysis
That the GOP has gone too far may be good news! GOP extremes, crimes, lie and absuridties have, at last, awakened some Democrats to the danger. At the same time, some Republicans have grown uncomfortable playing Faust to to the GOP's Mephistopheles, i.e, Satan. To them --I say: too late! You may have already sold your soul! And --as they say in Hollywood: what else you got?

Oi let them secede to Texas!

For some 100 years, Texas was a part of the solid Democratic south and it was a better state for it. Education did not begin to deteriorate until the disastrous George W. Bush and Rick Perry regimes. Last time I checked, TX trailed the nation in high school graduations. THAT is the Bush/Perry legacy, the curse they put on Texas.

So gay GOP chief Mehlman was a cultist, but Walmart board member Hillary Clinton "cares" -- Democrat, CFR, occult witch. Apropos of all that,

Maybe you never heard of Eric May, Ghost Troop, Texas, or glorious Texas Democrat, Lyndon B. Johnson, a/k/a Murder Inc. a/k/a Ballots-R-Us a/k/a Mr. Tonkin. That spells a Great Society to me!

Well you get an A for effort. Actually, governments are cults. It takes courage to drop the belief in 'rational' systems as god, be they corporate or government.

We're there, kid. Power-mad trillionaires keep us bickering, unfocused on their ponerology. Governments and corporations are playthings.

'It is difficult to understand why so-called "progressive", "liberals", and "leftists," who so vehemently opposed the Vietnam War, now belong to the Council on Foreign Relations. The CFR is perhaps one of the most rightist, reactionary organizations in the U.S., where they brush elbows with war criminals like Robert McNamara, Henry Kissinger and many others who masterminded the Vietnam war.

'This may explain why these "leftist's" criticism of the U.S. policies seems to focus on the CIA, the Pentagon -- which, for some mysterious reason, they equate with the Republicans -- for the disastrous consequences of the U.S. Government's actions. They are very careful, though, in stopping right there, and not going beyond these organizations to blame the people who actually control them through their control of the U.S. Government. In their efforts to confuse the American people, they are not very different from "conservatives" and "rightists" like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Daniel Flynn, David Horowitz, Ann Coulter and Christopher Ruddy, all of them people who invest an inordinate amount of time convincing their listeners and readers that just by keeping the Democrats out of the White House all problems in this country will be solved.'

Hear Cathy O'Brien tell how government decisions are made. And in Bob Fletcher find all you want to know about Iran-Contra.

If you have read this blog before, you must know then that I have serious problems with 'so-called' liberals/progressives not the least of which is that too many lack the courage of their convictions; too many have tried to bargain with Satan.

Clinton's 'triangulation' of the center merely encouraged the 'rabid right'. Teddy got it right: speak softly and carry a BIG stick. Too often the 'left wing' (for lack of an accurate term, carries a limp stick if any stick at all.

If the American left were ever given a 'GOP BUDGET' (like the monies gopps get from elites) the American left would be nuts if did did run rough shod over the 'right', kick 'em in their sorry asses, figuratively bulldoze K-street, and bring down to rubble and ruins the financial edifices put up by the Axies of K-street and Wall Street.

As for roots, modern 'progressives' should study Teddy: 'speak softly and carry a big stick!' And with respect to the 'stick', they should not hesistate to use!

Now --the rank and file progressive/left leaning liberal is NUTS if he/she 1) sits out any election because a leftist Messiah is not on the ballot!

Progressives should begin renewed organizational efforts from within the Democratic ranks and file; there is no viable 'Progressive party' as such. Read Saul Alinsky, a "leftist" activist, strategist, and tireless champion of progressive causes. Alinsky ---sadly --has been adopted by the GOP and cited often in their 'campaign manuals'. I know that because I had procured some from those days (halcyon days for the GOP) when Tom DeLay was consolidating his base of power in S.E. Texas.

My point: the GOP has practiced tactics urged by Alinsky. Why the hell have the Democratic party allowed right nuts to have 'adopted' Alinsky's tactics which using them to subvert the progressive cause in general?

'The fault, Dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in ourselves that we are underlings!'

The good news is, the Republicans who actually believed that the GOP had the people's interests in mind have woken up to the reality of the situation. The bad news is, the GOP somehow continues to manage garnering support from the American people. We are a nation of followers, apathetic and complacent, who would rather watch reality television and Nancy Grace than actually research the goings-on of the political sphere. To put it crudely, we are bending over and taking it with a smile. But hopefully more Republicans will leave the cult and expose it.
