Bush Determined to Strike Iran!

It would appear that just such a war is imminent, that the forces summoned up by a snarling Dick Cheney will prevail. The Guardian reports that the war with Iran is back on the table.

Cheney pushes Bush to act on Iran

The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months, the Guardian has learned.

The shift follows an internal review involving the White House, the Pentagon and the state department over the last month. Although the Bush administration is in deep trouble over Iraq, it remains focused on Iran. A well-placed source in Washington said: "Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in limbo." ...

The pretext for the attack on Iran is that Iran is supplying "insurgents" in Iraq. That it is a dubious claim will not stop Bush. It was in February that Bush tried to shift attention from his claims by putting an onus on Congress.
Challenged on the accuracy of US intelligence, President George W. Bush said yesterday there is no doubt the Iranian government is providing armor-piercing weapons to kill American soldiers in Iraq. But he backed away from claims the top echelon of Iran’s government was responsible.

Bush, at a news conference, also said he would fight any attempt by the Democratic-controlled Congress to cut off money for the war. "They need to fund our troops, and they need to make sure we have the flexibility necessary to get the job done," he said.

--Bush insists Iran is supplying insurgents

But are they? When Bush has lied about everything else, what reason is there to believe him now? Even if the charges are true, Bush must accept the responsibility for having created a situation in which Iran might form natural alliances with sects inside Iraq.
Defending US intelligence that has pinpointed Iran as a hostile arms supplier in Iraq, Bush said, "Does this mean you’re trying to have a pretext for war? No. It means I’m trying to protect our troops."
US troops would be better protected withdrawn. The US, itself, would be better protected if its criminal administration were not perpetrating aggressive war and other crimes against humanity in Iraq!
A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb” if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do “what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do,” and “that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.”

--New Yorker

A "high ranking diplomat" tells the New Yorker that this is more than a nuclear issue with Bush, that it is about the "hearts and minds" of Iranians. How bloody absurd! Only in the fevered mind of a Bush is "nuking" a nation considered to be an acceptable method of winning "hearts and minds". With any attack, we will have lost every heart, every mind. We will have inspired a million "Bin Ladens".

The only issue that truly concerns Bush is the issue he is too cowardly to talk about about: who will control the world's supply of oil over the next ten or twenty years? Hearts and Minds, my ass! This is not about Iran's alleged "nuclear" program. It's about George Bush's desire to control the price of energy all over the world.

There is nothing but downside for the US. Nevertheless, if Iran stopped it's "nuclear" program tomorrow, Bush would simply find another pretext to attack.

Iran knows that Bush cannot wage another ground war like Iraq. Bush, who cannot secure Iraq, cannot secure Iran, a mountainous and forbidding terroritory that remains unconquered since Alexander the Great! Bush is no Alexander!

Bush is limited to surgical air strikes which Bush hopes will destroy Iran's nuclear research facilities. There is no guarantee that even nuclear tipped "bunker busters" will be effective in any way. The war, rather, will produce a generation of Osma bin Ladens. It will destabilize the tyrannical rulers of Saudi Arabia who are, in fact, Bush's partners in oil crime. It will lead to even greater waves of anti-Americanism throughout the world and, specifically, Latin American where millions are inspired by Hugo Chavez.

Our Country, is being held hostage by two lunatics, George Bush and Dick Cheney. I see little hope for the future of our Democracy. Without a doubt, were going to bomb Iran, and Bush, could very well set off a dirty bomb in one of our American Cities. I really hope I'm wrong, on both counts, but from looking at Bush and Cheneys track records I rather doubt it.

These guys are certifiable lunatics.

When will the Congress wake the fuck up and order the arrest of both of them?

Congress can impeach and remove both and order their arrests if they fail to comply.

The helplessness is maddening.

Our Representatives in Congress at too cautious or perhaps to ineffective to do anything to stop these lunatics and even the vaunted and respected Senator Feingold voted FOR the Liebermann amendment that handed Bush a "finding" to use military force in Iran.

I'm ready to man the barricades

I'm furious
